Heroes of Hammerwatch II is a fun game but can prove to be extremely challenging at times. The roguelike elements, hordes of enemy waves, and the lack of resources to fight them can definitely test your patience. But don’t worry, in this guide we will take you through different methods of farming resources and most importantly – keeping them.
How To Quickly Get XP & Resources In Heroes of Hammerwatch II
There are a lot of things that you can do when exploring an area in Heroes of Hammerwatch II to farm XP and resources. These range from upgrading the Church to equipping the right items. Let’s look at all these in detail below. But before we do that, one super useful tip to keep in mind is to convince a friend to join you in co-op. Co-op makes the game much more balanced, and any resources you get while playing it aren’t distributed equally but individually. We have a few more methods listed below:
Upgrade The Church

You can build and upgrade a lot of structures in Heroes of Hammerwatch II, but your first priority should be the Church. This is because you need to pay a contribution of about 40% when you die and spawn back in town, but if you upgrade the Church, it will lower that percentage significantly. And believe us, you will die a lot in this game; an upgraded Church makes it much less frustrating.
Visit Dungeons

You need to do a lot of dungeon crawling in order to get resources and XP in the game. However, not all dungeons are safe for you to visit initially. Activating the “HUD Overlay” setting from the options menu displays the main location, the floor of the dungeon, and the average area level. You should always visit dungeons that are 4-5 levels below yours, as you will have a much easier time to navigate through them. For example, if you are level 25, find dungeons that are between the 20-25 range and grind them. Any more than that and the time invested to farm the dungeon won’t be worth it, or you might just die.
Equip the Right Items

Equipping the right food and drink options can go a long way to get XP and resources in Heroes of Hammerwatch II. There are a lot of them available throughout the game, but these are the ones you can get early on and have decent stats:
- Forager’s Feast – 25% wood, stone, and iron material gain
- Sawdust – 50% wood gain
- Prospector’s Pride – 50% iron gain
- Sweet Pancakes – 20% experience gain
- Crooked Back – 50% stone gain
Note that you can only have one food item equipped at a time, but drinks you can have up to three. Additionally, you should also get buffs from the Chapel like the Blessing of Wealth or the Blessing of Wisdom that give you 50% gold or experience gain respectively.
Manage your gold

If you know you are up for a tough boss fight, you can always drop your gold outside their hideouts and pick it up later. Since you won’t have any gold when you die, there is no penalty for respawning – go back and collect your gold. You can also collect crops from farms and sell it to Rebecca in Northern Fallowfields, or Sean Bean for a decent amount of gold in the early game. Additionally, you will spot a purple bird on occasion while you are exploring, and interacting with it allows you to send your stuff back to town. You will know a bird is about to spawn when you see a lightning bolt appear, after which the bird will start flying and eventually settle down.
Use the Console

Although considered by most players to be ‘unethical’, this is by far the fastest way to get gold and resources in the game. You can use the developer console and activate cheats to get any effect you want. Open the console with the tilde (`~) key, and enter the following commands:
- echeats_1: Enables cheats
- cht_god 1: Infinite Health
- cht_noclip 1: Clip through terrain
- cht_explore_level: Reveals the map
- cht_killall: Wipes out all enemies
- change_level <path>: Teleports you to the designated location
- cht_levelup <amount>: Levels up your character
- cht_plr_level_progress <level>: Grants the level and gear the comes along with it
- cht_give_gold <amount>: Grants gold
- cht_give_item <id> <amount>: Spawns any item in the game
- cht_clear_inventory: Clears your inventory
- cht_change_weather <type>: Changes the weather
- cht_play_music <track>: Plays the desired track
- cht_refill_potions: Refills all the potions
- cht_revive: Instantly spawns you back
- cht_clear_skills: Resets all your skill points
Note that any cheats that have 1 for true value can be reversed by putting 0 instead of 1.
And with that, you are all good to go resource-hunting in the game. While you are here, why not pay a visit to our guide on all class specializations in Heroes of Hammerwatch II?
