In Heroes of Hammerwatch II, you will come across various kinds of power-ups, but Shadow Curse is the most unique one. Even though it is technically a debuff, the curse comes with its advantages. Therefore, you need to understand how to manage it wisely. In this article, we will tell you all you need to know about the Shadow Curse.
What Is The Shadow Curse In Heroes Of Hammerwatch II?

The Shadow Curse is a debuff that reduces your resistance and armor by 5 per stack. The most common way to get afflicted by the curse is by interacting with wisps of smoke that are found in dungeons. A few enemy attacks can also curse you, but the wisps are a confirmed method. Being afflicted with a debuff sounds counterintuitive at first, but it has incredible potential to be useful for every character class – especially Rogue and Ranger.
If you are intentionally getting afflicted by talking to the wisp, it will offer you certain items or buffs in return. These are generally powerful items that give you a massive boost like an increase in Weapon Damage, all of which scales with each curse stack you have. However, having too many stacks not only reduces your armor substantially, but also starts hindering your gameplay. Your game darkness is increased, and you cannot spot enemies even on the map, let alone around a corner. Also note that buffs are different on each run, so you won’t always get what you need.
How To Remove The Shadow Curse In Heroes Of Hammerwatch II

The best method to remove the curse is by finding braziers or large bonfires situated in a purple-lit room. The brazier removes three stacks on each use, and the bonfire removes a random number. Since their locations are randomized on each dungeon visit, it is recommended to use them right before leaving the area, so there is no chance of affliction without a way to remove it.
Additionally, certain consumables can also help you with the Shadow Curse. We have listed a few of them below:
- Bishop’s Blessed Bread: -10% Shadow Curse Gain
- Enduring Light: -25% Shadow Curse Gain
- Stinging Curse: 50% chance to neutralize an incoming Shadow Curse and convert it into 35 Pure Damage
You can also use the Blessing of Light from the Chapel that grants -20% Shadow Curse Gain.
So with this information, you can now take a call if you want to take the next run in the game equipped with the Shadow Curse, or get rid of it quickly in case you get stuck with it.
